On the morning of July 19th, we got up early enjoyed a delicious breakfast, and spent some time exploring the harbor at Stonehaven before heading to my hometown, Aberdeen. We arrived in Aberdeen and went see the house I lived in on Summer Street when I was born and then went to see my Grandfather and Grandmother's graves. We spent a couple of hours driving around the city and stopped at the corner of King Street and Market Street to visit the Market Cross. The majority of Scottish towns have a Market Cross in the traditional market area. When I was young my parents would take me to the Fruit and Vegetable Market as well as the Timmer (Timber) Market where you could purchase items made form wood. Aberdeen has a beautiful Market Cross surrounded by the granite buildings that make the city famous. Aberdeen is known as the Granite City or the Silver City because of the sparkling granite. We stopped at the beach and walked on the promenade before heading to catch the NorthLink Ferry to Shetland.
