A Sign of Good Things to Come

Main_Street_Sign_001

This is one of the new Thurmont Main Street signs installed this past week on the roads leading into Thurmont.
Thanks to Commissioner Bill Blakeslee, Vickie Grinder and John Concannon, Frederick Office of the State Highway Administration. This sign is located just east of the Rte. 15 South interchange on Rte. 77. The others can be seen at Rte. 806 & Frederick Road, Rte. 550 & Rte. 15 and in front of the Elementary School on Rte. 550.

Vickie Grinder, Main Street Manager

Our New Main Street Manager

Vickie Grinder was recently appointed as Thurmont’s Main Street Manager. As
Main Street Manager she will be responsible
for the day to day operation of
Thurmont First, our Main Street Program.

Her duties include arranging training, organizing meetings and getting as many local businesses involved in Main Street as she can. Here she is addressing the Thurmont Board of Commissioners at the January 17, 2006 meeting.

Vickie also serves as the President of the Thurmont Economic Development Committee. The EDC is currently organizing the 2006 Thurmont Business and Restaurant Expo, which will be held on March 31st at Catoctin High School. Applications are available for Vickie, or online by clicking the 2006 Business Expo link on the left side of this page. Spaces at this years event are available on a first come first serve basis.

Watch for ThurmontFirst mailings and e-mails notifying you of upcoming meetings and events.

Our First Grant:
Within weeks of being named as a Main Street Community we applied for and were awarded a matching grant from the DHCD. The grant will be used for Main Street signage, public seating downtown and for a project to improve the cross walks at the square. The value of the grant is $4,000.00 and the Town of Thurmont has agreed to support our effort by funding the seed money.
