Catoctin Wellness Center, a satellite of Catoctin Counseling Centers Inc. formally opened at their new Thurmont location at 112 E. Main Street with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday the 5th of March 2007. Mayor Martin Burns did the honor of cutting the ribbon with Commissioner Bill Blakeslee, Vickie Grinder, and John Kinnaird present as honored guests.
Larry Stouter, MS, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, opened the first Catoctin Counseling Center office at 18 N. Church Street in Thurmont in 1994. Three offices followed in later years and are located in Frederick, Hagerstown, and Westminster. Counseling at the center focuses on reducing or eliminating barriers to content living using practical research based interventions for families, individuals, or couples. Also practicing counseling at the facility are Cheryl Berger MS and Jennifer Houdesell MS. All of the therapists at the Center pride themselves on down to earth approaches for treating frequently encountered life stressors.
Catoctin’s new Thurmont location offers acupuncture from Fred Wolfson, L.Ac.. Acupuncture is a gentle, safe, and effective treatment for a variety of conditions including muscle and joint injuries, back and neck issues, chronic pain, arthritis, sciatica, and headaches. Depression, anxiety, stress, insomnia, fatigue, addictions, smoking, and weight loss are also treated with acupuncture.
Beth Rankin a certified massage therapist conducts therapeutic massage, which is a proven technique for stress reduction and aids in the recovery of injuries. Both acupuncture and massage can be used separately or in conjunction with counseling.

Almost one year from the date of the groundbreaking Weis Markets opens it new Thurmont store. The large crowd included town officials, the Catoctin Bnd, the Guardian Hose Company and representatives from many other groups. Weis made donations to several organizations at the opening ceremonies. See pictures of the Grand Opening here.
