The first Saturday Stroll of the 2010 Season featured live entertainment in Mechanicstown Square Park and Memorial Park.  Here Mary LaRoche and Paul Zelenka wow the crowd with their easy listening talents! There were many vendors along Main Street and most downtown shops offered visitors Saturday Stroll specials. Visitors also enjoyed free Rita’s Ice, a deliciously enjoyable cool  treat!

Main Street Saturday Stroll Makes a Donation to Local Schools
The theme for the last Saturday Stroll was “Back To School”, visitors to Main Street shops could collect back to school supplies and through out the day there were drawings for back packs full of school supplies.  Several of the back pack winners, many of those who collected school supplies and businesses with extra supplies returned the materials to Thurmont Main Street so they could be donated to our local schools.  The supplies were delivered to the Thurmont Primary, Elementary, and Middle Schools as well as to Catoctin High School by Thurmont Main Street Manger Nancy Poss and EDC Vice Chairwoman Stacie Zelenka on behalf of Thurmont First Main Street and the Thurmont Economic Development Committee.  The supplies included glue sticks, crayons, note books, pens, pencils and book bags. The schools were very appreciative of the donations and will make sure the materials are provided to students in need of these supplies.  We want to thank our residents as well as the sponsoring businesses for helping
Thurmont First Main Street & EDC to provide these much needed supplies to our schools.
